Lincoln's Inn Fields

My first job as a legal audio secretary was in Lincoln's Inn Fields.
The switchboard was a dolls eye switchboard.
The receptionist put through incoming calls to different members of staff by plugging a cable into holes in a board in front of her. As more calls came in the board began to look like a plate of spaghetti.

The picture of the old "dolls Eye" Switchboard brings back many memories to me of when I worked in the "War Cabbinet Rooms" in White hall during the war. although we had many clever pieces of equipement, we still used the old fashion type of switchboards .

I used one of these switchboards at the London offices of the Liverpool Daily Echo in Fleet street in the late 1950's.
